HAPPINESS HACKS On: Attitude

Watching a hardcore Tour de France mountain stage like yesterday's. Riders cycle up an average 8.2% grade at speeds most of us don't dream of reaching on a flat road sprint & they keep it up for miles! Changes my mind about what difficult really is!

RESOLUTIONS: This weekend

For the 31DBBB Challenge starting 7/19, I decided not to use any of my current blogs & to blog a new topic. Below are the tasks I need to complete this weekend to be ready for this Monday.

SECRETS OF ADULTHOOD

I learned from my Mom's life & passing to follow my dreams now; to do what I want to do, to do what makes me happy NOW! Life is way, Way, WAY too short to get to the end regretting what could have been.

RESOLUTIONS: ProBlogger’s Build a Better Blog in 31 Days Challenge

I'm participating in the fun of the challenge via a rockin site I just found, The Secret is in the Sauce. I found SITS from The Daily Brainstorm site, that I found in Gretchen's 7/12 post. Life is so synchronous sometimes (see my previous resolution)

RESOLUTIONS: Practice yoga everday (Or at least 5x per week)

Yoga has helped me so much to reduce my neck pain, and reduce my stress level. To increase the positive results I'm getting from my practice I need/want to practice more often and so am committing to practice every day & if not at least 5x per week.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: An observation

Although my 'No negativity out of my mouth for an hour' resolution has ended & I didn't log the hours of non-negativity on the resolution chart often, the act of creating the resolution helped me to be mindful of the negativity I spoke & reign it in.

  • Create book of my photos
  • Finish poetry book
  • Create 'My Happiness Project' book for me

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: I did it!!!

I've wanted to submit 2 poems to The New Yorker: I decided which 2 to submit (finally - with help from friends), turned them into PDFs today (finally) & submitted them! I sent in 'My Imagination' & 'You' & have to wait up to 3 months to hear back.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: An observation

I don't want to be a corporate wage slave. I want my career to reflect who I am, my values & ethics, and passions. Updating a mega-corporation's credit card site is the antithesis of what I want my job to be & so I am changing it, one step at a time.

RESOLUTIONS: read, Read, READ!

I love to read, I might as well admit it. Since I love it so much why is it that I hardly read at all? One of my resolutions for April (and forevermore) is READ!

April 25 - May 1

title 25 · sun 26 · mon 27 · tue 28 · wed 29 · thu 30 · fri 01 · sat
Read a book
Read a magazine
Read a blog
  • average this week: 0% positive!
  • all time average: 27% positive!

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: More Wow

Watching the movie also underscored the idea of going through life with the childlike wonder of the 'treasures in the drug store window' or the 'Look mommy look! A dog!' moments - Gretchen mentions ordinary dog but her daughter sees 'A doooooggg!'...

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Wow

I just watched Gretchen's movie 'The Years Are Short' & was really impacted by it. The movie serves to drive the point home that life is every moment we live now, not just those awesome moments we try to remember. That realization brings happiness.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Gratitude Journal

Although each day brings it's challenges, I delight in being able to experience them & work through them. The challenges as well as the joys are what make life life & I feel gratitude that I can enjoy both the highs & lows.

HAPPINESS HACKS On: Memories & traditions

Listening to my CD of old-school freestyle music I that listened to growing up in South FL. It reminds me of driving to the beach to hang out with friends & get some sun...reminds me of hanging out at the club, of dancing until I could dance no more.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Gratitude Journal

I am grateful today for the beautiful day outside; I am grateful for the desire & ability to play my flute when I get home from the gym tonight, no matter how rusty I may still be, how weak my chops still are - I can play & it makes me so very happy.

HAPPINESS HACKS On: Gratitude

I am grateful each day I practice yoga. I am grateful that I can practice yoga, and I am grateful for the spiritual, emotional and physical benefits of my practice. I give thanks for my practice and for doing something good for myself.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Starting vacation

I've been able to get so much stuff done today - a few things from my resolutions for this weekend. A lot today is in preparation for an all day outing tomorrow to the Concours d'Elegance. Talk about scheduling play! Tomorrow is a whole day of it! :)

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Happiness Project Group

I talked to 2 people about starting a Happiness Project Group & received a positive response - w00t! Now to talk to a few more people & get started... :)

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Happiness is...

A Dorito with tons & tons of cheesy stuff on it! :)

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: An observation

I've noticed that the more I play/practice my flute the more people who are close to me seem to be taking offense at the time I'm spending playing/practicing. This bothers me & makes me wonder 'Why?'. I'm going to have to get to the bottom of this...

RESOLUTIONS: No negativity out of my mouth for an hour

In order to further my Happiness Project, I commit to try to keep from constantly speaking negativity. To accomplish this goal, I will resist the urge to speak negatively for 1 hour at a time as many hours as I can per day.

April 28 - May 4

title 28 · wed 29 · thu 30 · fri 01 · sat 02 · sun 03 · mon 04 · tue
Just say no to negativity! (for 1 hour)
  • average this week: 0% positive!
  • all time average: 14% positive!

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Today is...

Very hard for me to stick with my 'no negativity will come out of my mouth today' resolution. It's a very ambitious goal & work makes it an especially hard resolution to keep. Perhaps I'll modify it to an hour at a time - a more realistic goal.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Today is...

A good day. My outlook about my work is getting better; maybe it's due to my commitment that my current work situation is not permanent & it is up to me to change it. And until it's changed, it's up to me to change my attitude about it.

RESOLUTIONS: Play!

I'm hoping that this resolution will eliminate the need for me to schedule play. Last Sunday I was able to stop doing chores & pick up a book to read & this resolution is my reminder to myself to do just that - when I feel like it, stop & play!

March 28 - April 3

title 28 · sun 29 · mon 30 · tue 31 · wed 01 · thu 02 · fri 03 · sat
Pick up a book & read
Roam the bookstore
Go to Earth Gifts
Try a new yoga pose
Catch up on the magazine reading
Anything else that's fun!
  • average this week: 10% positive!
  • all time average: 21% positive!

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: An observation

Thankfully the Happiness Project sites aren't blocked my my job's content filter - otherwise my easiest afternoon happiness boost (reading the Happiness Project blog/working on my project here) would be inaccessible to me & what a pity that would be!

SECRETS OF ADULTHOOD

Be grateful each day to: breathe & see & perceive beauty & practice yoga & eat & work & think & hope & dream & smile & laugh & believe & grow & learn & love & cry & fail & honor all & ask for help & lend a hand & love & like & dislike & relax & be me

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Today is...

So it's corny, but today is the first day of the rest of my life - again! I'm starting my happiness project all over again & what got me re-inspired? Starting to read The Happiness Project book! Many thanks to Gretchen for getting me going again! :)

RESOLUTIONS: Play/practice flute at least 3x per week

So that I get better enough to play with an ensemble I will practice/play the flute at least 3 times per week.

May 16 - May 22

title 16 · sun 17 · mon 18 · tue 19 · wed 20 · thu 21 · fri 22 · sat
Played the flute
Practiced the flute
Both played & practiced
  • average this week: 0% positive!
  • all time average: 4% positive!

RESOLUTIONS: Be happier with work

So as not to be so frustrated with the job I have that pays the bills, build a side business to sell my photos, digital art and greeting cards as one outlet for my creativity.

April 18 - April 24

title 18 · sun 19 · mon 20 · tue 21 · wed 22 · thu 23 · fri 24 · sat
Print digital art, photos, greeting cards, business card labels
Matte art & photos

Build boxes to display art/photos
Order plastic bags
Take photos of booth, art & work area
Submit photos & application to vend @ Riverside Arts Market
  • average this week: 0% positive!
  • all time average: 1% positive!

LISTS Tweak biz site & create digital art site

  1. Tweak biz site
  2. Create digital art site
  3. Apply digital art site style to my blog

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Starting my Own Business

My new site design is done & I am so stoked! Of course I have some tweaking to do, I think I'm going to remove the digital art & add an about page & create a site exclusively for my digital art. Methinks what design that ends up with so will my blog.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: My mom

I am so thankful I started my Happiness Project - I will definitely be needing my project now more than ever so that I can stay positive & help my mom stay positive while she is undergoing cancer treatment.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: My mom

It's been so stressful lately due to my mom's cancer diagnosis. She had a hysterectomy on steroids Tuesday & Saturday we found out that she will need 2 rounds of chemo & 1 of radiation as her Dr. can't be certain he go it all. Thank the gods for this

HAPPINESS HACKS On: Mood boosters

My father & I were on the patio where the hummingbird feeder hangs from the pergola. One zooms in, checks us out, then starts eating. Then he (or she) stops eating, flies about 6" from my face just checking me out, flies over to my dad does the same.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Starting my Own Business

Recent circumstances at my job are inciting me even more to really ramp up the freelancing & start my own web/graphic design/seo business, as being repeatedly reminded of mistakes made in front of the entire team has happened one too many times.

HAPPINESS HACKS On: Mindfulness

Watching the hummingbirds is instant happiness. Today, while gardening, I see a shadow, look up & one is about 3 feet away, feeding. He stops feeding, flies down in front of my face about 2 feet away & just checks me out! Talk about a happiness hack!

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: A new blog!

I started a blog a part of July's resolutions: http://electrikdream.wordpress.com/

SECRETS OF ADULTHOOD

If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab our problems back.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Starting my Own Business

Redesigning electrik-dream again as the design is way too simple & it occurred to me that if I've built these bad-ass websites for other folks then my website for my business ought to bad-ass too; the current design is way too abstract & arty & blah.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Starting my Own Business

This is sort of a continuation of 'Back to work...blues or inspiration?' for me to use as a place to log my work/accomplishments/setbacks/etc I have while I go through the process of starting my own business, with the goal of only working for myself.

HAPPINESS HACKS On: Attitude

Working on my Happiness Project is an instant boost! No matter whether I update my resolution chart (I note the action I took in my chart rather than check it off; to mark what I did when on my Project), or contemplate my commandments, instant happy.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Just another release day...

I tried the 'act like I want to feel' mindset again today at work and it worked for the most part; there are still some things that I have to work on how much I let them get to me, though, especially when they are things beyond my control.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Just another release day...

Boo on that last post about just another release day; it was the complete antithesis of what this is supposed to be about. Duh!!! again. I've been having quite a few 'Duh!' moments lately. Perhaps I should label them 'Aha!' moments rather than 'Duh!'

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Just another release day...

...with the extra added bonus of having the new guys errors to deal with, as well as trusting a seasoned employee to research a release issue only to find, after she'd gone home for the day, that she hadn't done the in-depth research needed as usual.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Back to work blues...or inspiration?

I've realized that there will only be 1 person always guaranteed to appreciate when I bust my butt & go above and beyond - me! I need to work for myself in order to be inspired to go to work everyday & be successful doing what I love to do. Duh!!!

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Back to work blues...or inspiration?

Being back to work makes me realize more than ever that I need to stop procrastinating & begin my plan to turn part-time freelance web design into full-time web design business.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Starting vacation

Now that vacation is over & I created my 'what I actually got done on vacation' list, I realized I got quite a bit more done on my vacation than I had planned; there's still more gardening to do (of course) but it was a very productive long weekend!

LISTS What I actually got done on my vacation

  1. Planted hibiscus, transplanted bougainvillea, planted yarrow, eggplants, dead headed roses
  2. Went shopping at Earth Gifts with my Mom (something fun besides gardening)
  3. Organized shoes with the 'Shoes Unders' I had bought instead of organizing under bathroom sink
  4. Did some relaxing & began reading Angels & Demons, but didn't get any spa treatments in :(
  5. Not only did I put the laundry away, I caught up on ALL the laundry I had

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Starting vacation

I'm so excited to have 4 whole days of doing nothing other than exactly what I want to do; it's very relaxing & refreshing! :)

LISTS Vacation List

  1. Get some gardening done! This is imperative, priority #1!
  2. Do something fun besides gardening.
  3. Organize under bathroom sink & put laundry away.
  4. Make a dessert.
  5. Relax & give myself at least 2 spa treatments.

ONE-SENTENCE JOURNAL From: Starting vacation

Now that I'm done venting about my super crappy day at work yesterday, I should actually be able to begin to enjoy my time off from work.

Like any other release day we had plenty of errors on both sides but I'm thankful none were mine and I didn't get mad at any of them which is a first. Holy run-on sentence Batman!
