About The Happiness Project

What is a "happiness project"? It's your project to take specific steps to boost your happiness.

Why the Toolbox? As I was working on my own happiness project, I realized that certain tools that I crafted more or less by accident—like my Resolutions Chart and my Personal Commandments—were particularly helpful in helping me to become happier. Because they were so useful to me, I created this website to introduce these eight tools, to allow you to use them in your own happiness project.

Everyone's happiness project will be different, and there's no right way or wrong way. You can use all eight tools, or you can pick the tools that appeal to you. Just jump in and start now.

You'll see that each tool has a character limit. This limitation is meant to help keep the Tools manageable and quick to use.

If you'd like to read more about my own happiness project, you can buy the book, The Happiness Project or you can read my blog about my daily adventures in happiness, on the Happiness Project blog.

To help you get started with your happiness project, answer the following questions:
1. What makes you feel good? What activities do you find fun, satisfying, or energizing?
2. What makes you feel bad? What are sources of anger, irritation, boredom, frustration, or anxiety in your life?
3. Is there any way in which you don't feel right about your life? Do you wish you could change jobs, cities, family situation, or other circumstances? Are you living up to your expectations for yourself? Does your life reflect your values?
4. Do you have sources of an atmosphere of growth? In what areas of your life do you find progress, learning, challenge, improvement, and increased mastery?

Answering these questions provides a good roadmap to the areas that you could tackle — and the Tools will help you stay engaged with your happiness project.
